How does riff ‘n’ roll sound? A bit of sleaze, a bit of glam, a bit of hard rock all mixed together with a sexy party attitude to rock and I think I’ve summed up King Lizard. These guys have a fun time on stage rocking out, they are great characters to watch. The drumming antics more than rivalled Tommy Lee. Where as Tommy was more for show, Sky’s movements flowed with the rhythm and became part of the beat. The guitaring from Niro is truly fantastic. Although I can see hints of a Slash in there, he really has made his own sound of solo, which is no easy feat!
King Lizard have a charisma that charms you into having a little boogie and leaves you with a wide grin, perhaps thirsty for a little more!

SOCIETY CRISIS – had the task to open up the fest today. SC are a solid hard rocking band. Though a tad loose on the drummers, the rhythms and beats were melodic with some spicy fills.
KITTY HUDSON – thundered on stage like a hard punch to the face. Bouncy riffs and anthemic lyrics. Though ambitious stick twirling caused a few drops, the set was still high energy and fun, steaming through to play as many songs as possible in the 30 minutes slot.
OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE – are probably the misfits on the bill being more metal then glam, regardless they play true to themselves belting out passion and groove with powerful vocals.
SHUSH – pump out their pop rock melodies with no disappointments.

(Unfortunately I had to miss all the other bands due to a gig of my own and being told the wrong times.)

GINGER - was quite laid back tonight. There was a great party atmosphere on stage and in the crowd. Although there were constant sound problems the show merrily continued with arms waving in the air and plenty of banter from ginger to the crowd, toasting pints and talking about life.

All in all the fest had a great atmosphere and there was great support for all the bands. The weather was great, thankfully for the BBQ, which I have to say, was a great hit and tasted fab!

The Diamond, Sutton In Ashfield – 03/09/09

Tonight I’ll finally catch Heavens Basement after missing them several times, and also I’ll get to check out the new drummer for Suicide Tuesday.
The atmosphere in the venue before the doors open is quite relaxed and calm. The Suicide Tuesday guys have a bit of banter, still breaking in the new drummer, Mick, whilst HB get their levels. The demeanor of all here is pretty chilled and happy. ST have adjusted well with the newcomer and he seems to have settle in well, proven in sound check with his instant tightness with the group.

SUICIDE TUESDAY – There was no a huge kick of ‘here we are’, more of a friendly ‘hi there welcome to our show’, but these friendly guys certainly warmed you to their performance. Whilst the music is tight and flowing more smooth than I have see before, I felt more energy was needed to fill the stage and increase their presence. However, this I am sure will come from the more solid line up in time as they obviously have the skill and ability, proven by a welcome encore. ★★★★✩
ABANDONED – Having sound checked with a cover I was unsure what to expect, sound and style wise. I have to say it was a pleasant surprise. The music was effectively straight forward, well written and well rehearsed to point of a tightness meaning they can relax on stage. The band have a great local following and certainly brought the girls out front! ★★★✩✩
HEAVEN’S BASEMENT – I can’t say a single bad thing and don’t know if I can even give them justice! A high octane passion fueled orgasmic hard rocking performance, honestly one of the best I’ve witnessed. There’s no messing about, the band hit hard with song after song. Great crowd involvement and what a crowd they have, solid from front to back and singing almost every word to every song.
Lead guitarist, Sid, I believe will be bigger than Slash, vocals to die for from Richie, a rhythm section more rocking than a boat and talk about drumming, solid as a rock! ★★★★★

Due to a successful three months of hard work and heavy touring, Dear Superstar are pleased to announce they will be launching a Brothers In Blood campaign with a free download of the single and official music video. The single is due for release September 7th 2009 via DR2 Records and is t celebrate the success of the bands recent tours supporting Papa Roach, Buckcherry, plus performances at Download and Sonisphere 2009 festivals.

Frontman, Micky Satiar, commented “2009 has been insane for us and we don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon – we’re putting out Brothers In Blood for free as a huge thank you to all Dear Superstar fans and we will be back on tour and kicking ass in the Autumn!” The video is available to view here.

Xander says…
Brothers In Blood is very typical for the trash sound that is booming at the moment. It has the perfect ingredients, dirty vocals and chants, hard riffs, solid drumming, groovy breakdowns and wailing guitars. I don’t really feel I can say much more than if you love sleazy rock, you’ll love this song and the band!
★★✩✩✩

Tina says…
I was fortunate enough to catch Dear Superstar at this year’s Download Festival, and if memory serves me well, they put on one hell of a show.
‘Brothers In Blood’ is a slick, catchy track reminiscent of good old 80′s cock rock/hair metal. From the first play I was hooked into this track and found myself tapping along. Despite ‘Brothers In Blood’ having a basic format, Dear Superstar have nonetheless created something highly infectious.
★★★★✩

Cazzy says…
Blood Brothers has an unrelenting beat to it that wouldn’t seem out of place in a stereotypical film about rock stars. However this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as the track does have good guitar riffs, which instantly grabs the attention of the listener. The lyrics seem slightly unimaginative and they tend to become quite repetitive. However, due to the decent beat of the track it’s quite catchy and something you can secretly play air guitar to on a sunny day.
