It’s been quiet on Run With The Torch past few weeks, no excuses… I’ve just been a bit lazy. Anyway, I’ll make it up by writing more articles the coming. With the end of the year nearing fast it’s a perfect opportunity to go over my experiences in rock and metal this year.
First of all, for me 2009 was about two of the best festival experiences I’ve ever experienced. It beeing Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium and Bloodstock Open Air in the England. As far as individual gigs go, this year hasn’t been too active, I’ve concentrated on festivals and I’m glad I’ve done so.
2009 in music preferation was a year of progressive music, prog-rock, progressive metal, expirimental and instrumental acts to name a few, Katatonia, Long Distance Calling, Animals As Leaders... Tech- and Math-metal went perfectly alongside it (SikTh, Gojira, Hacride). And especially the combination of Sludge and Progressive metal such as the incredibly popular Mastodon and Baroness. I’ve also rediscoverd Thrashmetal new and old acts, notably reasonably newcomers as Evile and good ol’ classics the likes of Onslaught and Anthrax.
I know I’ve been covering a lot, but comperatively with 2008, there was a good lack of metalcore and melodic death beeing played on my iPod. So was there little room for (hard)rock , though I’ve been focusing on Southern and Blues-rock more these last weeks.
Working to the end of the year I shall more frequently post my favourite albums of the year and other notable events and releases.
